Frances Montresor Brush Buchanan Allen Penniman is the co-author of Vermont’s oldest known botanical collection. Her formidable spirit helped shape her eldest daughter, the namesake of the Fanny Allen hospital in Colchester, Vermont and the first New England Catholic nun, and Fanny’s second husband, Ethan Allen, a leader in the Revolutionary War, the Green Mountain Boys, and the Vermont independence movement.
We are celebrating Fanny with the help of Chittenden County Historical Society (celebrating their 60th anniversary!) and over 15 other local organizations by hosting a weekend full of history-related family fun. There will be arts & crafts, activities, tours, book signings, and a prize wheel. A Fanny reenactor will show visitors around the historic Allen House. Plus, our annual flax harvest will take place Sat & Sun 12-1pm. Each day will culminate with a special guest speaker. More information is below about the guest speakers.
