Winter Visits
Though we close annually from November through April, that doesn’t mean the museum’s asleep! We schedule special programming all winter long, and Ethan Allen Homestead Park’s trail network offers a great way to combat cabin fever.
Winter Trails
Ethan Allen Homestead Park is a great place to visit in the winter for hiking, snowshoeing, and cross country skiing (and photography!). The nearby Intervale Center offers additional trails (some groomed), and is connected to the park via several paths.
The park is owned and managed by the Winooski Valley Park District, and you can find more information about their regulations and tips regarding use of the park here on the WVPD website.

Private Group Programs
We offer 60-90 minute curated private group programs, such as guided history hikes and guided tours of the historic Allen House (c. 1785) and grounds (including the Abenaki Village and Fanny’s Garden). Such programs cost $15/person, with a minimum cost of $150. We can cater these programs to the specific interests and logistics of your group; in some cases we can even bring a museum educator to you at your site. Email us your ideas so we can collaborate on a successful program for your group.
Lecture Series
We continue our Monthly Lecture Series through the winter (except for the month of December). Although we have taken advantage of digital programs to hold some of the winter lectures on Zoom (often in January and February), many remain in-person and on-site. These lectures are free to attend.

Volunteer
We need volunteers year-round! From archeological artifact preservation to exhibit maintenance and photo digitization, there’s plenty to do in the colder months.
